Tropical Oasis Maui | Yoga & House Music Retreat | Zero Waste Retreat

Camp Olowalu, Lahaina, Maui | March 29-April 1, 2019

Tropical was founded in 1998 by Ben Annand with a vision to improve the image of electronic music events by creating a high-quality production that also raises money and awareness for the less-fortunate. There have been over 60 Tropical events in Southern California since, over which time the nonprofit party has raised over $23,000 for charitable causes.

Tropical started in a warehouse on October 9, 1998, and moved around to different warehouses in its first 5 years. In 2004 things got experimental with the first-ever Tropical Boat Party, and other formats were later added including Tropical Campout (2007), Tropical Beach Party (2009), and Tropical Oasis Retreat (2011).

In 2017 Tropical is at its strongest point. Back on the water annually since 2015, last year’s Tropical Boat Party smashed the party’s record donation with a whopping $5,233 donated on just the one event. The annual Tropical Oasis Retreat is the highlight of the year for many Tropical party goers who find the relaxed weekend of music, pool fun, and dancing just what they need ????

CHEF KYRA’S NOTES ABOUT THE EVENT

When Tropical approached me to cater the event, my first response was a big NO. I usually work with much smaller groups. But after getting to know Ben and Jessica, and feeling the magic the event was going to be, I changed my mind. Knowing how much work cooking for 130 people volunteers would be, I brought on Jesse Torrey, former chef at Big Island’s former Kalani Oceanside Retreat, to act as Head Chef for Tropical so I could focus on management and logistics.

The menu I designed is custom for Tropical retreat’s specificities, designed with great care to not only be a delicious and interactive showcase of Maui’s unique farm-to-table flavors but also to work within the constraints the Olowalu kitchen presents logistically.

The menu is well rounded nutritionally, with proteins, local produce, and various sauces and accouterments presented at each meal. It uses classic dishes (ie tacos, pasta, etc) but pulls local flavors and island-produce into the mix for fun celebratory fusion effects.”

Client Testimonial:

“Mahalo to Kyra Bramble and Jesse Torrey and all our kitchen volunteers for doing an amazing job preparing delicious food for our guests at Tropical Oasis Retreat Maui!

Cooking for 130 people over 4 days is no easy task and More Pleaze delivered them all on-time which is truly amazing, we want to give our highest recommendation to this catering service!”
